Specifications for Life Safety Stairwell Signs


1.01		GENERAL
	A.	The General Document listed in the Index, including the
		General Conditions, Supplementary General Conditions and
		General Requirements are hereby made an integral part of this
		section.
	B.	This subcontractor shall review, in detail, all other
		sections of the construction specifications affecting the work
		of this section of the Specifications.

1.02		REFERENCES
	A.	1994 Life Safety Code Handbook, Sixth Edition, Section 5-2.2.6.6.
	B.	Massachusetts 6th Edition Building Code, Section 1014.11.5.
        
1.03		QUALITY ASSURANCE
	A.	Fabricator shall have manufactured signage for a minimum
		of four years and have completed work equal to the scope of
		this project.

1.04		SCOPE
	A.	This section includes:
		1.  Life safety stairwell signs.

		
1.05		SUBMITTALS
	A.	Submit standard color selection chips.
	B.	Submit manufacturer's product information sheet(s). 
	C.	Submit scaled or full size mock-ups of each sign type.
	D.	Submit one sign of any sign type.
	E.	Submit sign schedule.


2.01		PRODUCTS
	A.	Life Safety Stairwell Signs where shown on the drawings or otherwise
		indicated shall be manufactured by  MEMCO Merrimack Engraving
		& Marking Co. of Methuen, MA 1-800-726-1719.
	B.	Anodized aluminum sheet with 1/8" thick baseplate. The sign colors shall be natural
                        aluminum color with black lettering and graphics or black background with natural
                        aluminum letters as specified by the architect.
	C.	Lettering must be flush with the surface and produced by
		photographic means so as to be made part of the aluminum. 
		Etched or applied lettering is not acceptable.  
	D.	Grade 2 braille (if required by architect) must be embossed to produce domed tops.
                        Grade 2 braille must be an integral part of the sign face and
		not glued or friction fit to the sign face.
	E.	Graphics must be produced from camera ready artwork.  
		

2.02		PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
	A.	Materials used shall have an outdoor durability of 15 years.

3.01		INSTALLATION
	A.	Signs are to mounted by the manufacturer's recommendations,
		either adhesive backing or tamper proof screws.
	B.	Install signs in accordance with local building code.
	C.	Assure signs are installed level.
